A Hit the Road Dude AI video made from a prompt: a driver in a white pickup leaning out of the window

What you need before you prompt

  • A photo of your driver: you, a friend who agreed, your pet, or a character you drew. One face, front-facing, good light.
  • An image-to-video model: one that starts from your photo. Text-only models invent a new face every time.
  • A plan for the audio: either a model that speaks quoted dialogue, or the original sound added on TikTok, Reels or Shorts afterwards.

Never use a photo of the man in the original clip, or of anyone who has not agreed to it. Most AI video apps block real-person likenesses they cannot verify anyway.

Step 1: Put your driver in the truck (image prompt)

Image-to-video works best when the first frame already looks like the scene. Make that frame with an image model that can edit a photo, then animate it in step 2.

Image prompt · person
Place the person from this photo in the driver's seat of a white pickup truck, seen from outside through the open driver's window. They keep their own face, hair and clothes. One hand rests on the steering wheel, the other forearm on the window frame. Behind the truck: a grassy field and the edge of a small pond. Late-afternoon daylight, handheld phone photo, eye level, vertical 9:16.
Image prompt · cat or dog
Place the pet from this photo in the driver's seat of a white pickup truck, sitting upright like a person, seen through the open driver's window. Keep its exact species, breed, fur colors and markings. One front paw on the steering wheel, the other resting on the window frame, looking at the camera with a stern, unimpressed expression. Grassy field and a small pond behind. Daylight, handheld phone photo, eye level, vertical 9:16.

Step 2: Make it talk (video prompt)

Upload the still from step 1 as the start frame and paste one of these. Keep the dialogue in quotes: models that generate speech read quoted text as lines to say.

Video prompt · standard (about 10–15 s)
Handheld phone footage, eye level, from outside the truck. The driver in the image leans slightly toward the open window and talks to the person filming, calm but unimpressed, like a landowner who has done this a hundred times. First, flatly: "Who told you to fish here?" A short pause, then with disbelief: "State?" Then a dismissive wave of the hand: "Hit the road, dude. This ain't state property, this is private property." Natural lip sync, small head tilts, the camera shakes slightly. The truck, the field and the light stay the same. No music, outdoor ambience only.
Video prompt · pet driver
The pet in the image stays seated upright behind the wheel of the white pickup, one paw on the wheel, the other on the window frame. It turns its head to the camera and its mouth moves in sync with a gruff male voice saying: "State? Hit the road, dude. This ain't state property, this is private property." Ears and whiskers twitch naturally; it keeps its own fur and markings in every frame. Handheld phone footage, daylight, field and pond behind, no music.
Video prompt · extended notepad ending
Continue the same shot. The driver says "What's your name? I want your name," picks up a small notepad and a pen from the dashboard, holds the notepad up to the window and writes on it slowly while staring at the camera. Handheld phone footage, same truck, same field, same light. No music.
Negative prompt (if your model has one)
orange tabby cat, cat fur or ears on a person, human face on an animal, merged or distorted faces, extra fingers, extra limbs, warped paws, flickering, changing truck color, text, captions, subtitles, logos, watermark, music

Prompt twists for remixes

Swap one line of the scene to get the remixes people post. Change only the setting and keep the dialogue beats, or the joke falls apart.

  • Space property: “a white lunar rover parked on a grey moon crater, Earth in the sky” and the line “Space? This ain’t space property, this is private property.”
  • Blocky game version: “the whole scene rendered as a blocky voxel video game, square pond, pixel grass”.
  • Wizard: “a robed wizard on a horse-drawn cart beside an enchanted lake, medieval fantasy”.
  • Old camcorder: “1990s VHS camcorder footage, date stamp in the corner, washed-out colors”.
  • Claymation: “stop-motion clay animation, visible thumbprints, slightly jerky motion”.

When the prompt goes wrong

ProblemFix
The face changes mid-clipStart from a sharp, front-facing photo, keep the clip under 10 s, and add “keeps the same face in every frame”.
The mouth does not match the wordsShorten the dialogue to “State? Hit the road, dude.” or generate silent and add the original sound in the app.
The driver gets out of the truckAdd “stays seated behind the wheel the whole time”.
The pet turns half humanSay “keeps its exact species and fur” and put “human face on an animal” in the negative prompt.
It looks too polishedAdd “handheld phone footage, slight camera shake, natural daylight”. The meme looks like someone filmed it from the bank.
The request is blockedApps block real-person likenesses they cannot verify. Use your own photo, a pet or a drawn character.

Prompt or template?

A prompt is the flexible route: your own setting, your own lines, your own style. It also means trial and error, and with most models you supply the original sound yourself. A template is the fast route: the Hit the Road Dude AI generator takes the original clip as a reference and recreates it shot for shot with your photo as the driver, so the truck, the timing and the audio match the meme everyone knows. Try the generator for the classic version, and keep these prompts for remixes. The step-by-step guide covers the template route.
