Hit the Road Dude AI template: an orange cat driving a white pickup by a field

The Hit the Road Dude AI trend runs on one-photo templates: you upload a face and the tool recreates the pickup-truck clip with it. They differ in who they accept, how long the video is, which formats you get and how you pay. Here is what each one offered when we checked. We make one of them, so we have kept to facts each tool publishes and noted where a detail was missing.

Hit the Road Dude AI

Our generator does one meme and covers the most ground on it. One photo replaces the orange cat, and the prompt branches on what the photo shows, so a person gets human hands on the wheel and a dog keeps its own fur and markings. There are two cuts: the standard 15-second window scene, and an extended 30-second one that adds the walk to the pond and ends on the notepad. Both come in portrait or landscape at 480p, 720p or 1080p, with the original audio.

A standard 480p video is 100 credits. Packs are one-time payments from $9.90 for 100 credits; on the largest pack that works out to about $4.99 per standard video. Failed videos are refunded in credits automatically.

  • Best for: pets, landscape posts, the long version, HD.
  • Watch out for: the extended cut and 1080p cost more credits.

hittheroaddude.org

A single-template site with simple per-video pricing: $6.99 for one video, $16.99 for three or $24.99 for five, with a credit returned if a generation fails. Videos are 11 seconds and vertical. It asks for a clear adult portrait, and its page says its examples do not establish pet support.

  • Best for: one quick vertical clip of an adult.
  • Watch out for: shorter clip, vertical only, pets not confirmed.

Starrd

Starrd is a template app with a Hit the Road Dude template that makes a 15-second clip and lists a pet version. It charges in credits, about 150 per video on its live template page when AI IDE List checked; the dollar value depends on the pack you buy.

TrendSwap

TrendSwap’s template makes a 10-second landscape clip, priced at 25, 50 or 100 credits for 480p, 720p or 1080p according to AI IDE List. It is the shortest of the templates here.

Media.io and prompt-based apps

Media.io has a Hit the Road Dude page that pairs an image-to-video effect with a prompt you can copy. Prompt-based tools are flexible, but a general model has to invent the scene from text, so the truck, the framing and the timing vary between runs, and you add the sound yourself.

How to choose

  • Your pet as the driver: pick a tool that says it supports pets.
  • Posting to YouTube or X in landscape: you need 16:9.
  • The full scene with the notepad ending: only the extended cut has it.
  • Just one clip: compare the price of a single video, not the price per credit.

Whichever you use, only upload photos of people who agreed, and never of the man in the original clip. The how-to guide has photo tips that apply to every tool.
